Our History
In 2013, YOM sent its first medical missions team to Lima, Peru. Since then, a group has returned every year to help the Barzolas and the ministry of Primera Iglesia Bautista Del Salvador.
Highlights from past trips
- In 2016, Jen Geesling led the trip with a group of students to Lima. They held several clinics in churches around the city. After that trip, they were able to get a group from the church in touch with the Red Cross to get trained and certified in first aid and CPR, which resulted in the start of the Lucas Ministry. The goal of the Lucas Ministry is to have a more permanent outreach in the church and community through healthcare.
- In 2017, Jen Geesling and Melissa Ritchey led the trip to Lima to assist with the Lucas Ministry again. That year, they held clinics and furthered the outreach of the Lucas Ministry by providing supplies and funds the ministry needed.
- In 2018, Elizabeth Mason and Dr. Maybeth Elliot led a team to work with the Lucas Ministry. This team held health screenings in local public schools. This opportunity allowed the missionaries to go back into one of the public schools and host a family day, and it allowed the Lucas Ministry to preform a second screening in the schools. Again, the YOM team provided supplies and funds that helped further the Lucas Ministry.
Now, YOM is planning its 8th medical trip to Peru. Please pray about joining our Peru medical mission team for summer 2020!
